SAFET ZEC
He was born in 1943, Rogatica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. After completing Applied Arts High School in Sarajevo, he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Serbia, Belgrade where he graduated at the Department of Painting in 1969
When he appeared on the art scene in the early 1970s, with wondrous and fairy-tale-like landscapes of Bosnia, his lavish and exceptional skill as a painter won over the art critics and audiences alike.
At the beginning of the 1990s, he was one of the most famous artists in (the former) Yugoslavia, representing the country at many international exhibitions. Until 1989, he lived and worked in Belgrade. When the war began, he was forced to leave Sarajevo and he moved to Udine, Italy. All of his works stayed in Sarajevo and Počitelj, so he was forced to re-build his artistic identity in the new context and to prove his genius talent in the new and demanding artistic framework of Italy and France.
Beside influential solo exhibitions, the artist participated several group exhibitions and was awarded more than 20 national and international awards in years.
