He was born in Istanbul at 1957. He graduated in 1977 from State Academy of Fine Arts with the licence in painting.

He won the achievement award at the "New Trends Exhibition" in 1987 and the Painting and Sculpture Museum Jury Award at the "Contemporary Artists Istanbul Exhibition" in 1989.

Despite graduating from the painting department, the artist saw himself as a sculptor who always seeks the possibilities of the third dimension in his works
In 1997, he started to create moving sculptures using a special technique, which he formed by combining different machine parts. These mechanical sculptures require very long processes to make. Demirtaş, is one of the important names of kinetic sculpture art in Turkey.

He continues to live and work in Istanbul
